Welcome

Hi there and first off let me start by welcoming you to this blogging collaboration, whose purpose is to not only provide a 1001 film introduction to what is possibly some of the most fun, let alone as the title of this blog states Mad, Bad and Downright Strange cinema that currently lurks out there to be enjoyed by those not afraid to wander away from the well trodden path of the cinema mainstream.

Meanwhile for those already familiar with these movies, we hope to have provided a viewing challenge similar to the one set by the book “1001 Movies to See Before You Die”, which provided the original catalyst for this project. For the publishers of that weighty tone settled for a mere 101 cult movies when they compiled their similar list for these movies, something which I felt that myself and the blogging community could easily top by compiling our own 1001 list of cult and obscure cinema.

Our other intention here is to provide an introduction to the more brave movie goer, who has a curiosity about these films but no real idea of were to start, especially when a quick scan through the obscure and frequently titles under this heading can often prove to be a daunting experience, so hence our hope that this will provide a fun entry point for these movies.

So after several months of ideas, arguments and much heated discussion we can now present our list, which takes in multiple genres from Blaxploitation, Kung Fu, Anime, Horror and even a couple of documentaries to name but a few, as this titles truly does cover a wide range of sub-genres perhaps in turn explaining why it is such an exciting area of cinema to explore, with the intention now we this list is to link each of these titles back to reviews written by some of the best writers currently working in blogging community, to help guide you though these titles. Needless to say if you wish to submit your own reviews which you have posted, for any of the films on the list. Please visit the contact us section for more details on submitting your reviews and supporting this project further.

We hope that you will have as much fun working your way through the list as we had putting it together and that to even the most hardened of genre fans will still be able to find something new to enjoy within it, let alone a challenge of watching all 1001!
